Two-time runner-up Daniil Medvedev defeated American Marcos Giron in straight sets to get to the Australian Open second round.
Giron was defeated easily by the seventh-seeded Russian, 6-0 6-1 6-2.
The fewest games Medvedev has ever dropped in a Grand Slam match were the three he dropped against Giron.
"Great memories of last year, but I want to have better ones this year," Medvedev said.
Medvedev will clash with John Millman, the 2021 US Open winner.
At Melbourne Park, world number one Iga Swiatek defeated German Jule Niemeier in straight sets to get her Australian Open campaign off to a successful start.
Swiatek, a three-time major champion who advanced to the semi-finals last year, triumphed 6-4 7-5 on Rod Laver Arena.
Niemeier's serve slipped for the first time, and top seed Swiatek took advantage to win the opening set.
Swiatek avoided going the distance by winning four straight games to set up her meeting with Osario, who defeated Hungarian Panna Udvardy 6-4 6-1 in response to the German's early serve break in set two.
In the second round, the 21-year-old Pole will compete against Colombian Camila Osorio.
